Appel lifts Stanford over UCLA
Feb 23, 2007 - 7:00 AM PALO ALTO, California (Ticker) -- Jayne Appel scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots to lead No. 10 Stanford to a 65-54 Pac-10 Conference victory over UCLA.Brooke Smith added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinal (24-4, 16-1 Pac-10), who won their fifth straight after shooting 45 percent (23-of-51) from the field.
UCLA (13-16, 7-10) trailed, 30-29, at halftime, but shot just 31 percent (10-of-32) in the second half.
Noelle Quinn collected 17 points for the Bruins, who shot 34 percent (22-of-64) from the floor and a dismal 46 percent (5-of-11) from the free-throw line.
Lindsey Plummer added 15 points for UCLA, which has lost five straight.
