Gearlds collects 33 as Purdue rolls to tournament title

Gearlds scored a career-high 33 points as No. 13 Purdue rolled to an 80-64 victory over Boise State in the championship game of the Duel in the Desert.

The tournament MVP, Gearlds shot 12-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-8 on 3-pointers, as the Boilermakers (11-2) captured their fourth straight win.

Shooting a sizzling 57 percent (17-of-30) in the first half, Purdue held a 46-30 advantage at intermission. It maintained a double-digit lead thereafter.

Erin Lawless scored 14 points and Lakisha Freeman added eight and six assists for the Boilermakers, who scored 20 points off 19 turnovers by the Broncos.

Jessica Thompson scored 15 points and Nadia Begay chipped in 13 for Boise State (8-4), which had a five-game winning streak snapped.
