North Carolina State ends Duke's undefeated season

Mar 3, 2007 - 11:55 PM GREENSBORO, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Ashley Key's accuracy helped North Carolina State halt Duke's unbeaten run.

Key scored 21 points, including the go-ahead jumper with 1:18 remaining, to lead the 25th-ranked Wolfpack to a 70-65 triumph over No. 1 Duke in the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

After making their 13th consecutive appearance in the ACC semifinals, N.C. State (23-8) will attempt to win its first tournament title since 1991 when it squares off with in-state rival North Carolina, which posted a 78-72 win over Maryland.

Key made 8-of-14 shots, including 3-of-6 from the arc. Her jumper in the waning moments capped the Wolfpack's comeback from a 14-point deficit to make it 66-65.

Sasha Reaves sank two free throws with 18 seconds remaining and Key added two more with seven seconds left as the Wolfpack ended a 10-game skid against Duke.

Khadija Whitington scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Gillian Goring added 12 points for the Wolfpack, who had a 34-14 edge in the paint.

Alison Bales and Abby Waner scored 17 points apiece and Lindsey Harding had 10 for the Blue Devils (30-1), which lost for the first time since falling to the Terrapins in the NCAA Tournament Championship game.
