Latta lifts North Carolina to third straight ACC crown
Mar 4, 2007 - 8:57 PM GREENSBORO, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Ivory Latta and North Carolina are queens of the Atlantic Coast Conference once again.Latta scored 20 points to lead the fourth-ranked Tar Heels to a 60-54 victory over No. 25 North Carolina State in the ACC championship game.
The all-time leading scorer in North Carolina history, Latta drilled four 3-pointers and made several key plays down the stretch en route to tournament MVP honors.
The 5-6 Latta hit a layup with 36 seconds left and sank a pair of free throws with 12 seconds remaining to seal the victory for the Tar Heels, who captured their third consecutive ACC crown.
Erlana Larkins scored 18 points while LaToya Pringle grabbed nine rebounds for UNC (30-3), which rallied from a 27-24 halftime deficit.
Ashley Davis scored 14 points to pace the Wolfpack (23-9), who committed 21 turnovers.
