Defense lifts Vandy to SEC title

Mar 5, 2007 - 5:12 AM DULUTH, Georgia (Ticker) -- After averaging 93 points over the first two tournament games, 13th-ranked Vanderbilt rode its defense to a 51-45 victory over No. 10 Louisiana State in the Southeastern Conference championship game.

Dee Davis scored 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting for the Commodores (27-5), who have won 10 of their last 11 contests.

Carla Thomas collected 13 points and six rebounds for Vanderbilt, which shot 42 percent (19-of-45) from the field.

The Lady Tigers (26-7) trailed, 24-23, at halftime and shot a dismal 22 percent (6-of-27) after the break.

LSU was led by Rashonta LeBlanc, who had 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting.

Sylvia Fowles scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Lady Tigers, who shot just 29 percent (15-of-52).
