Little, UNC blitz Prairie View in NCAA Tournament opener

Mar 19, 2007 - 4:16 AM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- North Carolina wasted little time in moving on toward a possible national championship.

Camille Little and Jessica Breland scored 14 points apiece as the top-seeded Tar Heels cruised to a 95-38 victory over No. 16 Prairie View in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Ivory Latta had 13 points and four steals and Rashanda McCants added 13 points for North Carolina, which jumped out to a commanding 57-15 edge at intermission.

The Tar Heels (31-3) will face off against ninth-seeded Notre Dame (20-11) in the second round of the Dallas Regional on Tuesday.

Shavonne Smith, Gaati Werema and Candice Thomas all netted eight points for Prairie View, which shot just 25 percent (15-of-60) from the floor committed 27 turnovers.

The Panthers (19-14) were playing in their first NCAA Tournament, despite dropping 10 straight games during the regular season.
