Ole Miss ousts defending champion Maryland
Mar 21, 2007 - 2:22 AM HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Maryland will not repeat as NCAA champions.Armintie Price scored 29 points and the Mississippi defense forced 29 turnovers en route to an 89-78 victory over second-seeded Maryland in a second-round Dayton Region contest.
Ashley Awkward added 22 points for the seventh-seeded Lady Rebels, who lost, 110-79, to the Terrapins in November.
Ole Miss will play third seed Oklahoma on Sunday in the regional semifinals.
The Lady Rebels (23-10) shot a blistering 56 percent (20-of-36) from the floor in the first half, building a 23-point edge with 8:10 left before settling for a 47-30 lead at intermission. Maryland got no closer than seven points in the second half.
The Terrapins (28-6) shot just 42 percent (28-of-67) and their turnovers were converted into 42 points by the Ole Miss.
Kristi Tolliver scored 24 points for Maryland, but shot 3-of-13 from the arc and committed 10 turnovers. Marissa Coleman had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Terrapins, who beat Duke for the national title last season.
