Larkins helps UNC pound St. John's
Dec 21, 2006 - 3:33 AM MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Erlana Larkins led four players in double figures with 17 points as second-ranked North Carolina pounded St. John's for an 87-43 victory.Larkins converted 9-of-14 free throws and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Tar Heels (13-0), who had a 50-34 advantage on the boards and held the Red Storm to 32 percent (17-of-54) shooting from the field.
Rashanda McCants scored 16 points and LaToya Pringle and Ivory Latta had 12 each for North Carolina, which started a season with 13 consecutive wins for the second straight year. Last season, the Tar Heels got off to a 22-0 start.
Pringle added 11 rebounds and seven blocks for the Tar Heels, who stormed out to a 45-17 halftime lead.
Monique McLean scored 15 points but committed seven of the 28 turnovers for St. John's (3-8), which lost for the fourth time in its last five games.
