No. 1 Maryland wins own tournament title
Dec 31, 2006 - 5:16 AM COLLEGE PARK, Maryland (Ticker) -- Opponents of Maryland now have one more obstacle to overcome.Sa'de Gatewood-Wiley scored 17 points to lead top-ranked Maryland to an 86-60 rout of Marist in the championship game of the Terrapin Classic.
Playing in just her third game since transferring from Tennessee, Wiley hit all four shots from the field - including both 3-point attempts - in registering a career high in points.
She led five players in double figures for the defending national champion Terrapins (14-0), who extended the country's longest winning streak to 21 games.
Marissa Coleman scored 15 points and Crystal Langhorne and Kristi Toliver 11 apiece as Maryland shot 52 percent (27-of-52) and made 10-of-20 3-pointers.
Marist (9-4), which trailed, 48-25, at the half, was led by Meg Dahlman with 12 points.
