George Washington surfs to tournament title
Dec 31, 2006 - 9:27 AM SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Kenan Cole and Kimberly Beck scored 13 points apiece to lead No. 16 George Washington to a 76-42 romp over San Diego State in the Surf 'N Slam championship game.The Colonials shot 59 percent (13-of-22) in the first half to breeze to a 39-17 lead at the break. They closed the first half on a 30-6 run and were never threatened thereafter.
Sarah-Jo Lawrence scored nine points as George Washington (11-2) outscored San Diego State, 30-12, in the paint and turned 21 turnovers into 28 points.
Jennifer Layton scored eight points to lead the Aztecs (7-4), who shot just 25 percent (12-of-48) and were outrebounded, 46-22.
