Latta sparks North Carolina over Virginia Tech

Jan 5, 2007 - 2:59 AM CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Ivory Latta followed up one of her worst performances of the season with one of her most impressive.

Latta scored 24 points to lead No. 2 North Carolina to a 102-68 blowout of Virginia Tech in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.

The Tar Heels (17-0, 2-0 ACC) were coming off their worst effort of the season, scoring a season-low total in a 69-57 victory over Georgia Tech in their league opener Tuesday.

Latta hit just 4-of-18 shots in that game, but the senior point guard finished 9-of-13 from the floor against Virginia Tech (10-6, 1-1) as North Carolina eclipsed 100 points for the third time this season.

LaToya Pringle added 22 points and nine rebounds and Camille Little scored 19 as the Tar Heels shot 56 percent (39-of-70) and forced 24 turnovers, including 16 steals.

Kirby Copeland scored 17 points to lead the Hokies, who were just 12-of-23 at the free-throw line.
