Carson, Rutgers upset No. 22 Pittsburgh
Jan 6, 2007 - 7:40 PM PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Essence Carson and Rutgers gave Pittsburgh a rude welcome to Big East Conference play this season.Carson scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Knights to a 63-39 rout over the 22nd-ranked Lady Panthers.
Kia Vaughn scored 16 points and had three blocks while Matee Ajavon chipped in 15 points for Rutgers (7-5, 2-1 Big East), which jumped out to a 33-23 halftime lead and never looked back.
The Lady Knights dominated on both ends of the floor, shooting 52 percent (26-of-50) from the field while limiting the Lady Panthers to just 30 percent (16-of-53) shooting.
Shavonte Zellous scored 16 points for Pittsburgh (12-2, 0-1), which looked lost in its conference opener. The Lady Panthers managed just 16 points in the second half on 24 percent (6-of-25) shooting.
