Davenport, Ohio State hold off Kentucky
Jan 6, 2007 - 7:55 PM COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- Jessica Davenport simply would not let Ohio State lose.Davenport scored 24 points and hauled in 12 rebounds as No. 8 Ohio State held on for a 53-51 triumph over Kentucky.
It was the sixth consecutive victory for the Lady Buckeyes (13-1), who nearly squandered a nine-point halftime cushion.
But the 6-5 Davenport stood tall when it mattered most, shooting 11-of-18 from the floor. Brandie Hoskins had 15 points and five assists for Ohio State, which owned a 34-26 scoring margin in the paint.
Sarah Elliott scored 18 points and Jennifer Humphrey grabbed 14 rebounds for Kentucky (12-4), which shot just 5-of-21 (24 percent) from the arc.
