Marquette captures record-setting 14th straight win

Jan 7, 2007 - 4:35 AM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Krystal Ellis made sure that Marquette put itself in the record book.

Ellis had four free throws in the final 32 seconds and scored 29 points as the No. 20 Golden Eagles posted an 82-79 Big East Conference victory over No. 24 DePaul for their school-record 14th straight victory.

Ellis, who finished 9-of-10 from the stripe, twice down the stretch made sure that a one-point advantage held when she was fouled following successful possessions by the Blue Demons.

Christina Quaye tied a career high with 26 points and grabbed six rebounds for Marquette (15-1, 3-0 Big East), which held a 42-34 advantage on the boards and finished 22-of-26 (84.6 percent) on free throws.

Jenna Rubino had 21 points and Caprice Smith added 20 for DePaul (11-4, 1-1), which lost for the third time in its last four games.

The Blue Demons, who opened the game with a 17-4 lead, trailed 44-41 at the break and by nine points with 13:52 left in the second half.
