Thomas, UConn rebound from first loss with rout
Jan 10, 2007 - 2:59 AM STORRS, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Mel Thomas and Connecticut took the frustrations of their first loss out on Seton Hall.Thomas scored 23 points and Tina Charles added 20 and 12 rebounds as the fifth-ranked Huskies rolled to a 106-58 Big East victory over the Pirates.
Charde Houston had 19 points and Renee Montgomery chipped in 17 and eight assists for Connecticut (13-1, 3-0 Big East), which went 59 percent (41-of-69) from the field en route to posting its 87th win in its last 93 league games.
The Huskies had been off to their best start in four seasons before absorbing a 70-64 loss to No. 4 Tennessee on Saturday.
Shooting 66 percent (23-of-35) in the first half, UConn raced out to a 58-29 lead at the break. It continued the onslaught in the second half, grabbing its largest lead of 41 points with 17 seconds remaining.
Thomas went 8-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-8 on 3-pointers, and Montgomery added four shots from the arc.
Amber Harris was the lone player in double figures with 11 points for Seton Hall (9-6, 1-3), which committed 19 turnovers and mustered just 14 assists in losing its third straight game.
