Connecticut sizzles from field in rout of Providence
Jan 18, 2007 - 3:16 AM PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Ticker) -- Tina Charles scored 18 points to pace six players in double figures as fifth-ranked Connecticut shot the lights out in a 96-53 rout of Providence in a Big East Conference contest.Mel Thomas scored 17 points and Ketia Swanier added 14 off the bench for the Huskies (15-2, 5-0 Big East), who shot an amazing 64.5 percent (40-of-62) from the floor.
Charles made 7-of-9 shots and added four rebounds in 18 minutes.
Kalana Greene converted 6-of-9 attempts for 12 points and reserve Kali McLaren was 5-of-6 for 10 points for the Huskies, who made 24-of-35 shots in the first half to race to a 57-30 halftime lead.
Chelsea Marandola scored 19 points on 9-of-16 for Providence (12-6, 2-3), which shot 41 percent (22-of-54) and was outrebounded, 37-21.
