Pierce helps No. 9 Stanford remain undefeated in Pac-10
Jan 19, 2007 - 6:13 AM PALO ALTO, California (Ticker) -- Cissy Pierce and Stanford wasted little time.Pierce scored 14 points and Brooke Smith and Jayne Appel each added 12 for the ninth-ranked Cardinal en route to a 70-48 victory over Oregon in a Pac-10 Conference matchup.
In the first half, Stanford (15-3, 8-0 Pac-10) held Oregon to just 19 percent (6-of-31) shooting from the floor and grabbed a 31-12 advantage at the break.
The Cardinal shot 48 percent (14-of-29) after intermission, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range, to keep the Lady Ducks at bay.
Carolyn Ganes and Eleanor Haring scored 15 points apiece and Taylor Lilley chipped in 10 for the Oregon (10-7, 2-5), which shot 31 percent (20-of-63).
