Spencer comes up big in Tennessee's win over Vandy

Jan 26, 2007 - 4:02 AM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Sidney Spencer scored a career-high 26 points as fourth-ranked Tennessee rebounded from its second loss of the season with a 67-57 Southeastern Conference victory over No. 14 Vanderbilt.

Spencer, who went just 3-of-13 from the field in a 74-70 loss to top-ranked Duke on Monday, knocked down 8-of-13 shots, including four 3-pointers, as the Lady Vols (18-2, 5-0 SEC) captured their 12th straight win in the series with their intrastate rival.

Candace Parker had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Alexis Hornbuckle scored 11 for Tennessee, which made sure a 28-21 halftime lead held up by shooting 50 percent (11-of-22) after the break.

Carla Thomas was the lone player in double figures with 16 points for the Commodores (17-4, 3-3), who committed a season-high 27 turnovers in absorbing their first loss in 12 home games this season.
