Vanderbilt starts fast in rout of Auburn
Feb 11, 2007 - 11:01 PM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Vanderbilt's size and shooting added up to a laugher against Auburn.Carla Thomas scored 15 points to lead the 14th-ranked Commodores to an 80-45 Southeastern Conference romp over the Tigers.
Liz Sherwood and Caroline Williams added 14 points apiece for Vanderbilt (21-4, 7-3 SEC), which scored the first 16 points of the game.
The 6-3 Thomas was 6-of-12 from the floor and the 6-4 Sherwood was 7-of-9, including a streak of 10 straight points that gave the Commodores a 28-6 lead with just over five minutes left in the half.
Vanderbilt dominated the backboards, 40-22, and shot 59 percent (34-of-58) from the floor.
DeWanna Bonner scored 12 points and Sherell Hobbs 10 for Auburn (17-9, 4-6), which shot 33 percent (15-of-45).
