Waner, Duke beat down Virginia in ACC tourney
Mar 2, 2007 - 11:22 PM GREENSBORO, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Abby Waner scored 24 points as unbeaten No. 1 Duke dominated Virginia, 79-58, in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.Alison Bales had 13 points, eight rebounds and six blocks for Duke (30-0), which will play No. 24 North Carolina in the tournament semifinals.
Waner made 9-of-17 shots, including 6-of-10 3-pointers for the Blue Devils, who were 8-of-18 from the arc. Duke also forced 17 turnovers to hold an 18-5 advantage in points off turnovers.
Monica Wright had 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals and Siedah Williams added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Virginia (17-14, 5-9) which shot 30 percent (20-of-66).
