Houston, Charles lead UConn to Big East semifinals
Mar 4, 2007 - 11:27 PM HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Charde Houston collected 19 points and 11 rebounds and Tina Charles added 18 and 10 with five blocks as No. 3 Connecticut cruised through the Big East Conference quarterfinals with a 74-54 victory over South Florida.The Huskies (28-2) advanced to face Louisville in the semifinals on Monday.
Charles shot 8-of-11 from the floor with a pair of steals for Connecticut, which shot 52 percent (29-of-56) and continued its dominance of the Big East with its 20th straight win against conference foes dating back to last season.
Kalana Greene scored 11 points and Renee Montgomery added 10 with six assists for the Huskies, who outrebounded the Bulls, 45-34, in recording their 14th straight win.
South Florida (20-11) was led by Jessica Dickson, who scored 18 points but missed all six of her 3-point attempts.
ChiChi Okpaleke had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Nalini Miller added 10 points for the Bulls, who shot 31 percent (21-of-67) and were outscored, 42-18, in the paint.
