Davenport lifts Ohio State into Big Ten final with OT win

Mar 5, 2007 - 5:07 AM INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (Ticker) -- Jessica Davenport scored all seven points in overtime as No. 6 Ohio State survived its Big Ten Conference semifinal battle with a 73-71 victory over Penn State.

Ohio State (28-2) will face Purdue in the conference championship game on Monday.

Davenport scored 32 points on 12-of-18 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Buckeyes, who shot an impressive 61 percent (31-of-51) from the field.

The Lady Lions (15-16) jumped out to a 70-66 lead in overtime, but managed only one point in the final three-plus minutes as the Buckeyes finished on a 7-1 run.

Star Allen had 12 points and Marscilla Packer added nine for Ohio State, which overcame shooting just 56 percent (9-of-16) from the free-throw line by outscoring Penn State, 38-28, in the paint.

Kamela Gissendanner scored 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting and Tyra Grant added 17 for the Lady Lions, who shot 42 percent (27-of-65).

Penn State received a 12-point, four-assist, four-steal contribution from Brianne O'Rourke, who made a 3-pointer with 32 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.

The Lady Lions trailed, 29-19, at halftime but shot 70 percent (19-of-27) after the break.
