Harding, Duke edge Temple to advance in NCAAs
Mar 21, 2007 - 12:28 AM RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Duke is headed to the round of 16 for the 10th straight time.Lindsey Harding scored 18 points and Wanisha Smith added 15 and seven rebounds as the top-seeded Blue Devils posted a 62-52 victory over eighth-seeded Temple in the second round in the NCAA Tournament.
Duke (32-1) will face the winner between Michigan State and Rutgers in the semifinal of the Greensboro Regional.
The Blue Devils shot 51 percent (16-of-31) from the field in the first half to open a 37-26 lead at intermission.
In the second half, Lady Comfort's basket helped the Owls (25-8) close to 51-46 at the 9:22 mark. But Duke responded with a 9-0 run capped by Harding's 3-pointer for a 16-point advantage.
Fatima Maddox netted 18 points and Kamesha Hairston collected 16 and 10 rebounds for the Owls, who shot 39 percent (22-of-56) and committed 19 turnovers.
