Chaney, Fowles spark Louisiana State

Mar 25, 2007 - 6:26 AM FRESNO, California (Ticker) -- No coach, no problem for Louisiana State.

Quianna Chaney scored 22 points and Sylvia Fowles added 20 as third-seeded LSU rolled over 10th-seeded Florida State, 55-43, in the Fresno Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

Despite the resignation of coach Pokey Chatman on March 7 due to allegations of improper conduct involving a former player, LSU (29-7) advanced to the regional finals for the fifth straight season.

The Lady Tigers will take on Connecticut in Monday's regional final. It will be a rematch of a regular-season matchup, which the Huskies won, 72-71, at LSU on February 11.

Chaney scored 10 points to lead LSU to a 27-18 halftime advantage, then hit a pair of 3-pointers and a layup in a 10-0 run to open the second half.

Florida State (24-10), which ousted second seed Stanford in the second round, never got closer than 12 points thereafter.

Jacinta Monroe scored 15 points and Alicia Gladden added 12 for the Seminoles, who committed 22 turnovers.
