Parker, Tennessee end Marist's magical run

Mar 25, 2007 - 7:27 PM DAYTON, Ohio (Ticker) -- The underdog Marist squad finally ran into a high-seeded team that it couldn't handle.

Candace Parker scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds as top-seeded Tennessee rolled to a 65-46 victory over No. 13 Marist in the semifinals of the Dayton Region of the NCAA Tournament.

Sidney Spencer and Shannon Bobbitt added 11 points apiece for the Lady Volunteers (31-3), who advanced to face either No. 3 Oklahoma or No. 7 Mississippi in the regional final on Tuesday.

It is the sixth straight appearance in the regional final for Tennessee, which shot 55 percent (18-of-33) in the first half en route to racing out to a 42-21 advantage at the break.

The sizzling start by the Lady Vols ended an impressive run for the Red Foxes (29-6), who knocked off fourth-seeded Ohio State and fifth-seeded Middle Tennessee in the opening two rounds.

Meg Dahlman scored 16 points and Rachele Fitz added 13 for Marist, which shot just 39 percent (16-of-41), including 2-of-14 on 3-pointers.

The Red Foxes also committed 15 turnovers and was outrebounded, 35-24.
