Parker, Lady Vols face Latta, Tar Heels in Final Four

Apr 1, 2007 - 1:08 PM North Carolina (34-3) vs Tennessee (32-3) 9:00 pm EDT

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Ivory Latta and North Carolina failed to make it to the title game last year. Tennessee's Candace Parker would like the same to hold true this season.

Latta and the Tar Heels will face off against Parker and top-seeded Tennessee on Sunday in the national semifinals of the Women's NCAA Tournament.

Erlana Larkins had 29 points and 10 rebounds and Latta scored 21 as North Carolina posted an 84-72 victory over Purdue in the Dallas Regional last Tuesday.

UNC is making its third appearance in the Final Four with the hopes of rebounding from last season's 81-70 defeat to eventual champion Maryland in the semifinal matchup.

Under the guidance of legendary coach Pat Summitt, the Lady Vols are in the Final Four for the 10th time in 13 years.

Tennessee is coming off a 98-62 triumph over Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi in the Dayton Regional on Tuesday.

At 6-4, Parker will carry the load on both ends for the Lady Vols. She is averaging 20.4 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.4 blocks against ranked opponents this season.

Tennessee is looking for its first national title since 1998.

The Lady Vols will be searching for some payback after falling, 70-57, at Chapel Hill on December 3. Larkins had 17 points and 12 rebounds for North Carolina. Parker collected 27 points and 10 rebounds.

The winner of this matchup will face third-seeded Louisiana State (30-7) or fourth-seeded Rutgers (26-8) in the national championship game.
