UConn shades Notre Dame

Jan 8, 2011 - 10:37 PM South Bend, IN (Sports Network) - Maya Moore led the way with 31 points and eight rebounds as No. 2 UConn got by No. 13 Notre Dame, 79-76, at the Joyce Center.

Kelly Faris scored a career-best 20 points, including a key layup with 14 seconds left for the Huskies (14-1, 4-0 Big East), who have won two in a row since a loss at Stanford.

Devereaux Peters notched 17 points with 11 boards and Natalie Novosel poured in 16 points for the Irish (13-4, 2-1), who saw their eight-game win streak halted and lost for the 10th consecutive time to Connecticut.

Novosel's layup with 2:11 had the Irish ahead 74-71, but a Tiffany Hayes deuce less than a minute later trimmed the UConn deficit to one.

Novosel and Peters both missed shots on the next trip down the court, then Moore converted a jump shot to give the Huskies a 75-74 edge.

Novosel redeemed herself on a jumper with 29 ticks left, but coming off a timeout, Faris hit an easy bucket to give the visitors a 77-76 lead.

Skylar Diggins missed a shot and Peters had to foul Stefanie Dolson, who hit two from the line. Diggins was unable to find the net on a deep three from the right wing as time expired.

It was a 41-41 deadlocked game at the break as Moore scored 17 points and Diggins had 14.
