Lady Vols top Vandy to stay unbeaten in SEC
Jan 16, 2011 - 3:32 AM Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) - Meighan Simmons posted 17 points and Angie Bjorklund 14, as fifth-ranked Tennessee weathered a shaky shooting performance to earn a 68-56 victory over Vanderbilt at Thompson-Boling Arena. The Lady Vols (17-2, 5-0 SEC) made 40 percent of their shots, and Simmons and Bjorklund were big factors in the figure. The guards combined to make just 11- of-31 shots, including 8-of-26 three-point attempts.
Helping to balance those performances were Kamiko Williams and Glory Johnson, who both made 5-of-7 from the field. Johnson finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Williams had 13 and eight as Tennessee won its eighth consecutive game.
While Tennessee did not have its best shooting night, it dominated in other aspects of the game. The Lady Vols held a 52-39 rebounding advantage and limited the Commodores (12-6, 3-2) to 33 percent shooting.
Jasmine Lister posted 17 points to lead Vanderbilt, which had won its last three.
