No. 1 Baylor holds off Texas A&M

Jan 30, 2011 - 8:37 PM College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Odyssey Sims hit a jumper with 26 seconds remaining and finished with a game-high 25 points, as top-ranked Baylor held on for a 63-60 win over sixth-ranked Texas A&M in Big 12 action.

Brittney Griner chipped in with 17 points and 12 rebounds for Baylor (19-1, 6-0 Big 12), which has won 16 straight since suffering its only loss of the season against Connecticut on November 16.

Tyra White had a team-best 18 points to go with eight boards for Texas A&M (18-2, 6-1), which had a 12-game winning streak snapped.

Tied at 46-all midway through the second half, Karla Gilbert's two free throws broke the deadlock for A&M, before Baylor went on an 11-2 run to take control.

Brooklyn Pope's two free throws gave the visitors a 57-50 edge with 3:53 remaining, but the Aggies clawed back to tie it at 60-all on Sydney Colson's three-pointer with 49 seconds left.

However, Sims knocked down a jumper on the ensuing possession to put Baylor up 62-60.

The Aggies then turned it over and quickly fouled Melissa Jones, who hit just one free throw with 10 seconds remaining to keep A&M alive. Colson, though, missed a long three-point try with 2.6 seconds left. The ball went out of bounds to the Aggies, but White's try off the inbound pass was partially blocked at the buzzer.

Baylor led 36-26 at halftime.
