Oklahoma advances to third straight Sweet 16

Mar 23, 2011 - 4:58 AM Charlottesville, VA (Sports Network) - Whitney Hand scored 27 points to lead the sixth-seeded Oklahoma Sooners over the third-seeded Miami-Florida Hurricanes, 88-83, in a second round matchup of the NCAA Tournament from John Paul Jones Arena.

Danielle Robinson added 18 points and a career-high 11 assists for the Sooners (23-11), who advanced to play Notre Dame. Carlee Roethlisberger posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 boards, while Aaryn Ellenberg had 13 points and Joanna McFarland contributed 12 points and 15 boards.

Shenise Johnson scored 25 points for Miami (28-5), while Morgan Stroman had 18 points and 14 boards, Riquna Williams contributed 17 points and Stefanie Yderstrom finished with 14 points.

Oklahoma jumped out to a 44-35 lead at the break behind 45.7 percent first half shooting and a 7-of-7 performance from the charity stripe.

The Hurricanes fought back to pull even with 3:26 remaining, before Robinson scored six straight points to propel Oklahoma to victory.

The Sooners outscored the Hurricanes 19-11 from the charity stripe for the game.
