Gross leads No. 6 Kentucky past 15th-ranked Georgia

Jan 20, 2012 - 4:06 AM Athens, GA (Sports Network) - Bria Gross scored 22 points, as No 6 Kentucky downed No. 15 Georgia, 69-64, on Thursday.

Samarie Walker added 18 points for Wildcats (17-2, 6-0 SEC), who earned their first win in Stegeman Coliseum since 2008.

Erika Ford scored a team-high 17 and Jasmine Hassell had 13 and nine rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs (15-4, 4-2). They were coming off of Sunday's win at Mississippi State.

Georgia took an 36-32 lead into the half and was up 52-47 with 11 minutes remaining, but the Wildcats reeled off a 10-0 run to take control.

Gross scored five points during the burst, starting it with a free throws, knocking down a trey and hitting another from the charity stripe to make it 57-52 with eight minutes to play.

The advantage grew to 62-54 before the Lady Bulldogs responded with five straight -- three by Ford -- to pull within three. With under a minute to play, they cut the deficit to 66-64 on Anne Marie Armstrong's trey, but Gross hit a layup out of a timeout to give Georgia a four-point lead with 22 seconds remaining.

Armstrong then turned the ball over and Kastine Evans hit 1-of-2 free throws to seal the final result and hand the Lady Bulldogs their first loss in Stegeman Coliseum this season (9-1).
