No. 2 Notre Dame coasts past Miami

Jan 24, 2014 - 4:42 AM South Bend, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Natalie Achonwa poured in 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead second-ranked Notre Dame to a 79-52 win over Miami-Florida at Edmund P. Joyce Center.

Lindsay Allen scored 16 and had five assists and Kayla McBride added 15 points, nine rebounds and five helpers for the Fighting Irish (18-0, 5-0 ACC), who haven't lost a regular season game since Dec. 5, 2012 against Baylor.

Michaela Mabrey and Madison Cable contributed 10 points apiece, while the latter added six rebounds, for the hosts.

Jassany Williams and Adrienne Motley scored 10 points apiece and grabbed six and five rebounds, respectively for Miami (11-8, 3-3), which has alternated wins and losses over the last eight games.

Miami took an early lead, 13-7, in the first 8:34 of the game, however, through the final seven minutes of the half Notre Dame tore open a 19-9 surge. The Fighting Irish led, 35-26, at halftime.

Notre Dame rattled off the first 10 points of the second half to take control and continued to build its lead through the rest of the contest.

The Irish shot 29-for-67 from the field, while Miami went 19-for-62 on its field goal attempts. The Hurricanes were also outrebounded 53-35 by Notre Dame in the defeat.
