No. 3 Stanford upset by Washington

Feb 9, 2014 - 11:38 PM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kelsey Plum led all Washington starters in double-figures with 23 points to upset third-ranked Stanford 87-82 on Sunday.

Mercedes Wetmore scored 18 and had eight rebounds, Aminah Williams tallied 16 points and grabbed 11 boards for Washington (13-10, 6-6 Pac-12), which will face Colorado on Friday.

Jazmine Davis and Talia Walton added 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the hosts.

Chiney Ogwumike finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds and Mikaela Ruef totaled 16 points and 22 rebounds for Stanford (22-2, 11-1), which lost for the first time since Nov. 11 against UConn.

Stanford began to send the Huskies to the line with just over two minutes left on the clock. It paid dividends as the Cardinals got within three with eight seconds remaining, however, Williams knocked down a pair from the line to put the game away for the Huskies.

Stanford pulled within 48-46 just over five minutes into the second half, however, Washington used a 19-5 run to stretch the margin to 16 with under nine minutes remaining.

The Cardinals fired back with a 13-3 surge to come within 70-64 with just over five minutes to play.

The Huskies outscored Stanford 22-14 through the last 12 minutes of the first half and led 41-34 at the break.
