Jones helps Duke take down Maryland

Feb 18, 2014 - 2:54 AM Durham, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Alexis Jones had 22 points as No. 7 Duke routed eighth-ranked Maryland, 84-63.

Richa Jackson had 19 points while Elizabeth Williams gave 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils (23-3, 10-2 ACC), who rebounded from an 89-78 loss to North Carolina last Monday.

Alyssa Thomas had 14 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists for the Terrapins (20-5, 8-4), who had a four-game winning streak broken. Lexie Brown gave 13 points in the loss.

Maryland held a 27-24 lead after Brown hit a 3-pointer with 5 1/2 minutes to play in the first half, but Williams hit consecutive buckets to give Duke the lead for good.

The Blue Devils closed the half on a 14-4 run and held a 38-31 lead at the break.

A 3-pointer from Katie Rutan got the Terrapins to within three, 42-39, but the Blue Devils answered with a 7-0 run capped on Jackson's 3-pointer.

Maryland kept it close over the next several minutes, but three straight 3- pointers, two that came from Jones, and a pair of free throws from Tricia Liston made it a 64-48 game with eight minutes to play.

Maryland got no closer than 11 points back the rest of the way.
