Prince, Rutgers get first win of the season
Nov 19, 2006 - 7:35 AM MALIBU, California (Ticker) -- Freshman Epiphanny Prince is making a statement that she is not long for the bench.Prince scored 29 points and Brittany Ray had 20 off the bench as No. 12 Rutgers posted an 88-71 victory over Florida.
Prince, who last year was a first-team Parade All-American from Brooklyn, New York, scored 113 points on February 1, establishing a new national record. The 5-9 guard averaged 42.1 points and 11.5 assists as a senior.
Prince was 11-of-15 from the field and Ray made 6-of-7 3-pointers for the Scarlet Knights, who won their first game after losing their first two of the season.
Kia Vaughn had 17 and 10 rebounds for Rutgers, which shot 59 percent (34-of-58) from the field and is now 1-2 all-time vs Florida.
Sha Brooks scored 24 and Depree Bowden added 18 and eight rebounds for Florida, which had a 40-37 lead at halftime. However, the Gators, who shot 39 percent (22-of-57), were outscored by 20 after halftime and fell to 1-3 in 2006-07.
