Michigan State beats Hartford, wins fifth straight
Dec 9, 2006 - 9:22 PM AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Aisha Jefferson scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as No. 18 Michigan State posted a 58-45 victory over Hartford.Jefferson shot 8-of-15 from the field and collected three steals as the Spartans (7-1) claimed their fifth straight victory.
Rene Haynes scored nine points and Victoria Lucas-Perry chipped in eight for Michigan State, which overcame 40 percent (23-of-57) shooting by holding a 36-26 advantage in points in the paint.
Allyssa DeHaan and Laura Hall had six points apiece for the Spartans, who took a 42-32 lead with 10:25 left in the second half behind an 8-0 run.
Danielle Hood and Ikea Witt scored 12 points apiece for the Hawks (7-4), who shot 23 percent (7-of-30) in the second half to fall behind.
In a defensive struggle, both teams combined to shot just 1-of-30 on 3-pointers.
