Stanford routs Army
Sep 14, 2014 - 1:43 AM Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Hogan threw three of his four touchdown passes to Devon Cajuste in 15th-ranked Stanford's 35-0 rout of Army on Saturday.Hogan completed 20-of-28 passes for 216 yards for the Cardinal (2-1), who bounced back from a 13-10 loss to USC last weekend. Stanford improved to 8-0 following a loss under head coach David Shaw.
Cajuste caught four passes for 52 yards for the Cardinal, who racked up 415 yards of total offense. Ty Montgomery had 86 receiving yards with one touchdown and also rushed for a score, while Barry Sanders carried the ball nine times for 92 yards.
Angel Santiago completed two passes for 13 yards and carried the ball eight times for 29 yards for the Black Knights (1-1). A.J. Schurr rushed for 65 yards on six carries.
"They're a good team," said Army coach Jeff Monken. "We're going to watch the film. We'll watch it critically and there will be a lot of things, I'm sure, that we'll be able to take from this game that will help us for the next one and the ones to come."
The Cardinal scored a touchdown on the game's opening possession. Cajuste caught a 23-yard TD pass on the ninth play of the drive.
But the Black Knights did a nice job of shutting down Stanford's offense for the rest of the half. The Cardinal finally found the end zone again late in the second quarter, after Army running back Larry Dixon fumbled. Hogan hooked up with Cajuste from two yards out with 27 seconds left.
"We're not where we want to be. It was a good day today executing, but we know we can get better," said Hogan. "We stalled there in the first half. We have to find a way to continue those drives and put more points on the board. But that's something we can work on."
Cajuste caught his third touchdown pass of the game with 2:51 to go in the third stanza. Sanders' 44-yard run down the right sideline set up Hogan's 15- yard TD toss to Cajuste.
Montgomery scored twice in the fourth to account for the final margin.
