Baylor thumps Oklahoma State

Nov 23, 2014 - 7:38 AM Waco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Devin Chafin had three rushing touchdowns to lead No. 6 Baylor to a 49-28 victory over Oklahoma State.

Chafin finished the game with 21 carries for 106 yards. Shock Linwood had 113 yards with a score on 21 carries and Bryce Petty was 18-for-29 for 262 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Bears (9-1, 6-1 Big 12), who have won three straight since their lone loss of the season at West Virginia.

Mason Rudolph went 13-for-25 for 281 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Cowboys (5-6, 3-5), who have dropped five straight games. Desmond Roland and Rennie Childs each had a rushing touchdown in the loss.

"There were times that we made too many mistakes," Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy said. "We've got to do a better job of correcting the short side of defense and allowing big runs."

The second snap of the game saw Baylor go on top as Petty went deep down the left sideline for Jay Lee, who caught the ball near the 20 and took it in on a 65-yard score just 36 seconds in.

Holding Oklahoma State to a three-and-out, the Bears got the ball back at their own 46 and Petty again used the deep ball, this time connecting with Corey Coleman for a 54-yard score and a 14-0 lead 2 1/2 minutes in.

The Cowboys had to punt again, but Ramon Richards picked off a Petty pass to get the ball back for his team at the Baylor 43.

That led to a 1-yard touchdown run from Roland to make it a 14-7 game with 7 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter.

Baylor came back with a lengthy 19-play, 79-yard drive that ate up over seven minutes of the clock, and was capped on a 2-yard touchdown run around the left end by Chafin with just 19 seconds left in the first.

Chafin scored his second touchdown of the game with 4:18 to play in the first half as he ran the ball in from seven yards out, but Rudolph guided his team back down the field, finding David Glidden in the end zone from eight yards out with just one second left on the clock to make it a 28-14 game at the break.

The only touchdown of the third quarter went to Baylor as Linwood ran the ball in from 11 yards out to give the Bears a 35-21 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Chafin's third score of the game came from a yard out less than a minute into the fourth to make it a 42-14 game.

The Cowboys, though, got a 68-yard TD reception from James Washington 13 seconds later, and, after stopping Baylor, made it a two-score game on a 2- yard TD run from Childs with just under 11 minutes to play.

Forcing another punt from Baylor, Oklahoma State was driving, but Orion Stewart picked off Rudolph and Petty sealed the victory with a 21-yard touchdown run with three minutes left.

"Redemption," Petty said of his touchdown. "Every one of those steps, I was thinking 'don't trip, don't trip, don't trip.' It was that point of the game where you have to score. It makes my mind ease up a little bit."
