Beck, Brown lead BYU past Oregon in Las Vegas Bowl

Dec 22, 2006 - 5:09 AM LAS VEGAS, Nevada (Ticker) -- John Beck and Curtis Brown didn't let the past affect the present.

Beck threw two touchdowns and ran for another and Brown rushed for 118 yards and two scores as 19th-ranked Brigham Young cruised to a 38-8 victory over Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Jonny Harline hauled in nine catches for 181 yards and a TD for the Cougars (11-2), who snapped a four-game losing streak in bowl games and ended the season with 10 consecutive wins.

In the same bowl last season, the Cougars could not overcome a 21-point deficit, enduring a 35-28 setback to California. They played from in front the entire way in this one, scoring the first 31 points against the Ducks (9-5) to record their first bowl win in 10 years.

The 25-year-old Beck passed for a Las Vegas Bowl record 375 yards, eclipsing his own mark of 353 yards set in last year's contest. Brown's biggest gain was 47 yards while Beck completed a 41-yard toss.

Beck passed for a TD and Brown ran for another as the Cougars took a 17-0 lead at halftime. Brown scored late in the third quarter and Beck found the end zone on a 14-yard scamper early in the fourth period for a 31-0 cushion.

Dennis Dixon passed for 121 yards and a TD with an interception for Oregon, which lost its fourth straight bowl game.
