Iowa State to play in Insight Bowl

Dec 6, 2009 - 10:36 PM AMES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa State is headed to the Insight Bowl in Tempe, Ariz., the Cyclones' first postseason trip since 2005.

A school spokesman Sunday confirmed the Cyclones' invitation to the Dec. 31 game at Arizona State's Sun Devil Stadium against a Big Ten opponent.

Iowa State played in the 2000 Insight Bowl, beating Pittsburgh 37-29.

The Cyclones went 6-6 in the regular season under first-year coach Paul Rhoads. He turned around a team that finished 2-10 in 2008 and was winless in eight Big 12 games. Iowa State's last bowl appearance was a 27-24 loss to TCU in the 2005 Houston Bowl, now the Texas Bowl.
