Hill huge as Wisconsin blast Northwestern
Oct 7, 2006 - 8:34 PM MADISON, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- C.J. Hill continues to be the motor behind Wisconsin's offense.Hill rushed for a career-high 249 yards and scored a touchdown as the Badgers posted a 41-9 triumph over Northwestern in Big Ten Conference play.
A 5-11 redshirt freshman, Hill opened the scoring just 66 seconds into the contest, going down the right sideline for a 60-yard TD on the second play from scrimmage.
Hill carried 35 times and went over the 100-yard mark for the fifth time this season en route to the fourth-best performance by a Wisconsin freshman since Ron Dayne in 1996. He entered as the ninth-leading rusher in the nation at 119.6 yards per game.
Quarterback John Stocco completed 16-of-21 passes for 220 yards. That included a 38-yard TD pass to Luke Swan, who caught his first career touchdown with 6:55 remaining in the second quarter for a 17-9 advantage.
Lance Smith and Dywon Rowan each scored rushing TDs for the Badgers (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten), who improved to 14-1 at home since the start of the 2004 campaign.
Safety Josh Stellmacher recorded his fourth career interception and returned it 25 yards for a score.
Andrew Brewer was just 10-of-24 for 94 yards and gained 80 on the ground for the Wildcats (2-4, 0-2), who converted just 2-of-11 third downs.
