Wilson rallies Alabama past Duke

Oct 8, 2006 - 2:57 AM TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (Ticker) -- John Parker Wilson and Alabama did just enough to avoid an embarrassing defeat.

Wilson threw a go-ahead touchdown pass to Keith Brown early in the third quarter as the Crimson Tide rallied for a 30-14 non-conference victory over winless Duke.

Alabama (4-2) trailed, 14-10, before Wilson's nine-yard pass to Brown with 9:23 left in the third quarter, though Jamie Christensen's extra point was blocked.

The Crimson Tide opened a 23-14 cushion on a two-yard run by Jimmy Johns with 4:08 to play, and Lionel Mitchell capped the scoring with a 50-yard interception return 35 seconds later.

Wilson completed 18-of-30 passes for 220 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for Alabama, which was outgained on the ground, 201-134.

Freshman Thaddeus Lewis was just 7-of-18 for 74 yards, a TD and two interceptions for the Blue Devils. Lewis also ran for a five-yard TD that gave Duke the lead entering the break.
