Iowa hopes to continue scoring output vs. Indiana

Oct 10, 2006 - 11:09 PM No. 15 Iowa (5-1) at Indiana (3-3), 12:00 pm EDT

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (Ticker) - Iowa bounced back nicely from its lone defeat of the season last week. Now Kirk Ferentz's squad looks to keep it going.

The 15th-ranked Hawkeyes try to follow up an impressive performance Saturday when they visit Big Ten Conference rival Indiana.

On September 30, Iowa was dominated by top-ranked Ohio State at home, 38-17. But the Hawkeyes responded with an emphatic 47-17 rout of Purdue last week.

Drew Tate threw for a pair of touchdowns and Damian Sims rushed for a career-high 155 yards and two scores for the Hawkeyes (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten), who opened a 20-0 second-quarter advantage and led comfortably thereafter. Starting in place of the injured Albert Young (sore leg), Sims helped the Hawkeyes rush for a season-best 286 yards.

Indiana (3-3, 1-1) rallied from an 18-point second-quarter deficit to beat host Illinois last week, 34-32, on Austin Starr's 33-yard field goal with no time left.

Sophomore Marcus Thigpen was named the Big Ten's Special Teams Player of the Week after gaining a school-record 197 yards on kickoff returns, including a 98-yarder that was his conference record-tying third TD return of the season. He finished with 311 all-purpose yards.

Iowa has won the last three in the series, posting a 38-21 triumph at home last year.
