Missouri looks for 7-0 start at Texas A&M
Oct 10, 2006 - 11:22 PM No. 19 Missouri (6-0) at Texas A&M (5-1), 3:30 pm EDTCOLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) - No. 19 Missouri aims for its first 7-0 start in 46 years Saturday when it visits Texas A&M in a Big 12 Conference clash.
The Tigers (6-0, 2-0 Big 12 North) are coming off a 38-21 triumph at Texas Tech last weekend in which they converted five turnovers into 28 points.
Missouri opened a commanding 24-0 lead when defensive end Xzavie Jackson and William Moore returned interceptions for touchdowns on consecutive snaps in the second quarter, and the visitors held on thereafter.
The Tigers, who are off to their best start since 1973, have not commenced a season with seven straight wins since 1960, when they won their first nine games before losing to Kansas, though that defeat later was overturned as the Jayhawks used an ineligible player.
Texas A&M (5-1, 1-1 South) rebounded from a 31-27 home loss to Texas Tech two weeks ago with a 21-18 triumph at Kansas last week as Jorvorskie Lane ran for the go-ahead two-yard touchdown with 34 seconds left.
Sophomore quarterback Stephen McGee, who threw for 240 yards and ran for a touchdown, was named the Big 12's Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Aggies on a pair of 80-yard fourth-quarter scoring drives. Missouri has won the last two meetings after dropping the first six. The teams have not met since 2003.
