Jackson helps Colorado record first win of season

Oct 15, 2006 - 1:08 AM BOULDER, Colorado (Ticker) - Dan Hawkins and Colorado broke through in a major way.

Quarterback Bernard Jackson had his hand in three touchdowns as the Buffaloes snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 30-6 Big 12 Conference victory over Texas Tech.

Hawkins signed a five-year contract with Colorado in January after compiling an impressive 53-11 record at Boise State, but his new team lost its first six games, including a setback to Division I-AA Montana State to begin the campaign.

Jackson completed 11-of-17 passes for 151 yards, including first-half TD passes of 28 yards to Riar Geer and 29 yards to Jarrell Yates for the Buffaloes (1-6, 1-2 Big 12 North), who registered 380 yards of total offense. The signal-caller also scored on an one-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Mason Crosby made three field goals, including two from beyond 50 yards, for Colorado, which held Texas Tech to just 31 yards on the ground. Crosby's 56-yarder in the second period was the second-longest in Division I this season.

Hugh Charles carried 17 times for 119 yards and safety Ryan Walters collected two interceptions for the Buffaloes, who forced five turnovers.

Quarterback Graham Harrell threw for 236 yards and a touchdown and Shannon Woods had 120 all-purpose yards for the Red Raiders (4-3, 1-2 South), who have lost two straight games.
