Columbia QB Nottingham lost to season-ending injury
Sep 24, 2013 - 11:15 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Sophomore Trevor McDonagh will take over as Columbia's starting quarterback after Brett Nottingham was lost to a wrist injury for the remainder of the season.Nottingham, a junior transfer from Stanford, was injured during Columbia's 52-7, season-opening loss at Fordham this past Saturday.
He completed 12-of-23 pass attempts for 144 yards and two interceptions, getting sacked four times while facing pressure throughout the game.
The 6-foot-2, 206-pound McDonagh replaced Nottingham in the game and completed 8-of-17 passes for 83 yards and the Lions' lone touchdown. He played in two games last season, going 14-for-29 for 166 yards and two interceptions.
Columbia coach Pete Mangurian also said senior defensive lineman Seyi Adebayo, who was attempting to come back from a knee injury which kept him out for all but a quarter of the 2012 season, was reinjured in the first quarter of the Fordham game. Adebayo will have career-ending surgery in the coming weeks.
"This is an unfortunate, ugly reality of football at any level," Mangurian said. "Of course, it is disappointing. These two young men have worked extraordinarily hard to prepare for the season. I feel for them. Brett will obviously have another year to play college football, but this injury has ended Seyi's college career. Both men have the full support of our football program."
Columbia (0-1) will host Monmouth on Saturday before playing its Ivy League opener at Princeton on Oct. 5.
