Ohio State looks to keep rolling vs. upset-minded Indiana

Oct 17, 2006 - 7:00 PM Indiana (4-3) at No. 1 Ohio St (7-0), 12:00 pm EDT

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) - Indiana may have beaten a ranked team at home last Saturday, but nobody is expecting the Hoosiers to pull off a much bigger upset this weekend.

The Hoosiers visit top-ranked Ohio State, which has won a national-best 14 straight games, in a Big Ten Conference contest on Saturday.

Indiana (4-3, 2-1 Big Ten) stunned then-No. 15 Iowa, 31-28, in Bloomington last weekend.

Redshirt freshman Kellen Lewis connected with James Hardy on three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 9:51 to play, and ran for a TD for the Hoosiers, who posted their first victory over a top-15 team since beating No. 9 Ohio State in 1987. Hardy finished with eight catches for 104 yards for the first three-TD game by a Hoosiers receiver since Duane Gunn against Minnesota in 1983.

Safety Will Meyers made a spectacular one-handed interception of Drew Tate at the Indiana 15 with just under three minutes to play, and the Hoosiers ran out the clock.

However, the Hoosiers are substantial underdogs against the Buckeyes, who have won the last 13 meetings since a 41-7 loss in Bloomington in 1988. Ohio State has won seven consecutive encounters in Columbus.

Ohio State (7-0, 3-0) is coming off a 38-7 triumph at Michigan State. Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns, Ted Ginn Jr. recorded his Big Ten-record sixth career punt return for a touchdown and Anthony Gonzalez had seven catches for 118 yards for the Buckeyes, who outgained the Spartans, 421-198.

The Buckeyes rank third in the nation in scoring defense at 9.0 points per game and have allowed only Iowa to record two touchdowns against them. Ohio State has converted 15 takeaways into 66 points, while its opponents have no points to show for five takeaways.
