Big 12 Conference leaders Texas, Nebraska meet in Lincoln
Oct 17, 2006 - 7:22 PM No. 5 Texas (6-1) at No. 17 Nebraska (6-1), 12:00 pm EDTLINCOLN, Nebraska (Ticker) - Only one team in the Big 12 Conference will remain unbeaten in league play following Saturday's clash between No. 5 Texas and No. 17 Nebraska.
The Longhorns visit the Cornhuskers in just the third matchup between a pair of 800-win programs in NCAA history. The other two were contests in 2005 and earlier this season between Michigan and Notre Dame.
Nebraska (6-1, 3-0 Big 12 North) joined the 800-win club with a 21-3 triumph at Kansas State last Saturday.
The Cornhuskers opened the scoring on a 17-yard pass from holder Jake Wesch to tight end Hunter Teafatiller on a fake field goal attempt less than four minutes into the contest.
Zac Taylor threw for a touchdown and Marlon Lucky ran for a 40-yard score for Nebraska, which limited Kansas State to just 22 rushing yards.
Texas (6-1, 3-0 South) rallied from an early 10-0 hole to rout Baylor, 63-31, last Saturday.
Redshirt freshman Colt McCoy threw for a school-record six touchdowns - three in a 28-point second quarter - for Texas, which ranks second in the nation in scoring at 42.71 points per game. McCoy is the nation's fifth-rated passer (175.3) after tossing 18 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
Texas is 6-4 against Nebraska, winning five of the last six meetings.
