Bell's late touchdown pass lifts Baylor over Kansas

Oct 22, 2006 - 12:24 AM WACO, Texas (Ticker) -- Shawn Bell hit Dominique Zeigler with a 10-yard touchdown pass with 1:08 left in the game to give Baylor a 36-35 comeback victory over Kansas in a Big 12 Conference game.

The Bears trailed, 35-17, after three quarters but mounted a huge comeback to improve to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Jayhawks fell to 3-5, 0-4.

Baylor started its comeback early in the final period when Bell hooked up with Trent Shelton on a 42-yard scoring strike to cap a five-play, 80-yard drive that sliced the deficit to 35-24.

Just under five minutes later, the Bears drove 84 yards in four plays, with Bell hitting Paul Mosley with a four-yard touchdown pass to make it 35-30.

Baylor, which won for the third time in its last four games, then drove 58 yards in nine plays and Bell capped the march by hitting Zeigler for the winning score.

Bell completed 33-of-55 passes for a school-record 394 yards with five touchdown passes and two interceptions.

Kansas' Jon Cornish, who had two TD runs in the second quarter, rushed 24 times for 197 yards.
