Woods out as VMI football coach
Nov 24, 2014 - 6:16 PM Lexington, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - VMI will not extend the contract of football coach Sparky Woods, athletics director Dr. Dave Diles announced Monday.Woods, 60, had a 17-62 record in seven seasons at VMI, including 2-10 this year. The Keydets had a 1-6 record in their first season back as a Southern Conference member after an 11-year run in the Big South Conference.
Woods' tenure equaled the third-longest in program history. His first team at VMI in 2008 went 4-7 for the most wins duirng his tenure.
He also was the head coach at Appalachian State from 1984-88 and South Carolina from 1989-1993.
